The Brand Film Festival, in association with Haymarket Media’s PRWeek and Campaign, ushered in its third year of celebrating the best in brand films with a panel and VIP launch party at the recent NAB Show New York.
Led by Steve Barrett, PRWeek’s VP, editorial director, the “Reinventing the Ad: Succeeding in Brand Storytelling” panel explored what it takes to excite audiences. Barrett was joined by Andy Goldberg, chief creative officer at GE; Jules Daly, president of RSA Films; and Greg Hahn, chief creative officer, BBDO New York.
An invite-only Brand Film Festival launch party followed the panel, bringing scores of PR, advertising, media, digital, film, and production professionals together in celebrating the 2018 festival season.
This is the Brand Film Festival’s first time partnering with the NAB, and in April 2018 the festival will also feature at NAB Show Las Vegas, the world’s largest annual convention covering filmed entertainment and the development, management, and delivery of content across all media.
This week also marked the launch of the new Brand Film Festival website, brandfilmfestival.com, where the first jurors have been revealed.
Among the top names to comprise the jury pool are GE’s Goldberg; Jen Dennis, head of VR, RSA Films; Eric Stern, MD and partner, Anonymous Content; and Tara DeVeaux, CMO, BBDO New York.
CAA Marketing CEO Jae Goodman will lead as the 2018 Brand Film Festival jury chair.
“I’m thrilled to take on the role, but I’m more thrilled that a venue now exists to showcase brand films,” said Goodman. “Where once a TV commercial was the only real media for a ‘brand film,’ today we are purpose-building films for YouTube, Facebook, film festivals, and actual television shows versus the interruptions within them.”
In addition to leading CAA’s international expansion and recent global initiatives for Budweiser, Coca-Cola, and Canada Goose, Goodman served as inaugural president of the Cannes Lions Entertainment Jury in 2017.
Visitors to the Brand Film Festival site can also find submission guidelines, previous years’ films, and special editorial content around entertainment, media, and advertising that will continue to unroll over the next year.
Submissions to the 2018 Brand Film Festival can now be made at brandfilmfestival.com through January 22.
